June 10, 2019
Laminate flooring is easy to maintain, looks good and doesn’t break the bank! Over the last couple of years laminate flooring has improved and is now an alternative to solid wood and stone floors.
What is laminate made from?
Laminate has 4 layers of material that are sandwiched together. The base layer keeps it rigid whilst its getting installed, the second layer is a solid fibreboard core that makes up the depth, then a thin design sheet which is a high-res photo of real wood, stone or tiles and then the last layer is a protective coating that protects the flooring from scratches and stains.
Is it hardwearing?
Comparing laminate flooring to porcelain tiles or engineers it’s not the most durable. Recently, it has been made to have splash-safe finishes and is now resistant to scratches which means it can cope with normal family lift. Laminate flooring can only cope with surface spills so isn’t recommended for bathrooms.
What are the latest trends?
There are so many styles for laminated flooring, especially now there are more unusual designs. There are some designs that come as interlocking planks that just click together so you don’t need glue. Colours range from dark wood with texture, fake marble or whitewashed boards, or you could have some that have a non-wooden effect.
Laminate flooring that has V-grooves along the edges of the board are more expensive, however they are worth the cost as they look more realistic, they just require more cleaning.
What should I look for when looking at laminate flooring?
There are a lot of different types of laminate flooring. There’s an anti-static laminate, so if you tend to get shocked by car doors a lot that would be perfect for you. If you have some pets or a noisy household, make sure you get an underlay to dampen the sound.
Make sure you choose laminate boards that fit your room, if you are looking to put laminate flooring in small room go for narrower and shorted planks.
