How to Make the Most of a Small Garden

You want to create an amazing outdoor living retreat, so you can spend more time with your friends and family, but you don’t have enough space? Don’t let space kill your dreams straight away! You need to utilize your design skills and experience to make the most out of the space you have. Here are some tips on making your small garden better!

Focused Approach.

It is important to identify the 2 or 3 elements that are most important to you when dealing with your smaller garden. We suggest more common elements to consider that don’t require a massive patio which will maintain functionally. The first thing you will need to need to think of choosing a foundation for your patio which will most likely be stamped concrete or pavers as this is the most common. Try and think of additional elements that won’t require a lot of space, so things like a seating wall and fire pit combo would be suitable.

Water Features & Lights.

When trying to think of additional elements for your smaller garden things like grill stations and fireplaces won’t work, try thinking of elements like water features and lighting. Lighting is something everyone usually something everyone forgets but it is one of the most important features elements you should have in your garden. From under cap lights to path lights it is a low-cost addition to your garden, and a necessity if you are looking to host evening gatherings. Both of these elements aren’t very expensive, and they don’t take up a lot of space. At the same time, you also need to consider landscaping options as landscaping and hardscaping go hand in hand and if one fails so will the other. It is easier to think of all the hardscaping elements first and then start thinking of landscaping elements.

Build Up, Not out.

When designing your garden one of the first things you probably thought of was how much square footage you will need for a patio. However, you will need to utilize the air space to bring appeal to your garden. You could choose from pergolas to decks to covered structures as they won’t create any unneeded clutter that takes space on your patio.

Keep it Open.

One of the major factors is making the most of a small yard is creating the feeling that your space is bigger than it really is.

Consider the fencing you have in space, if you can have no fences this will create the illusion of a much bigger garden. If you can’t do this try and use a short and open fence as this will still do the same job.

Simply constructing an elevated patio can go a long way as it makes a huge difference. Doing this will define different areas of your outdoor living space.
