Three soft wood battens – to make a tiling gauge rod, allowing you to work out positioning of rows and tile sizes, it is recommended to use a 50mm x 25mm wooden batten.

Successful tiling relies on planning, partnered with acquiring all the correct tools you’ll need from Thompson & Parkes.
Step 1 – Wall surfaces
To prepare your wall, there are three easy steps you will need to follow. Firstly, make sure the surface being used is flat, dry and clean. Secondly, you’ll need to fill any holes. Once dry, prime porous surfaces with a PVA-based adhesive.
Top tip: If tiling in a damp environment, such as a bathroom, it is essential to tile on an already water resistant background, like tile backer boards.
Step 2 – Calculating tile quantities
As the number of tiles in a pack can vary, it is crucial to know the area it will cover in square metres. You’ll then need to measure the height and width of the area to be tiled and multiply to obtain in square metres. Top tip: Add an extra 10% to allow room for cuts and breakages.
